An aluminium alloy strut consists of circular cross sections of different diameters and lengths. The $75 \mathrm{~mm}$ diameter section is $500 \mathrm{~mm}$ long and the $45 \mathrm{~mm}$ diameter section is $300 \mathrm{~mm}$ long. The strut is subjected to an axial tensile force of $150 \mathrm{kN}$. The $E$ value for the material is $70 \mathrm{GN} / \mathrm{m}^{2}$ and Poisson's ratio 0.34 . (i) Determine: a) The volumetric strain for each section of the strut. b) The actual change in volume for the whole strut. c) The \% reduction in cross-sectional area for each section of the strut.
