The major European powers the United Kingdom and Germany have both differences and similarities in their governmental or political systems.

The UK has a parliamentary system of government with a constitutional monarchical system. Here the head of the state is Monarch who is selected on a hereditary basis. Wheres as Germany has federal parliament with a Republican system of government. So the head of the states in Germany is the president who is indirectly elected by the people. Even though the selection of heads of the states is different in nature, both of the countries follow a parliamentary democratic form of government that is based on the principle of popular sovereignty.

The constitution of the UK is unwritten in nature that means there is no well defined fundamental law of the land, the procedures are followed by the customs, statues, judicial decision, etc. But Germany has a written constitution that is known as the Weimer constitution enacted in 1919 that officially established the parliamentary democratic form of government in the country.

Step 2

As both of the states adopt a parliamentary form of Government, most of the governmental powers are exercised by the head of the government. And in the UK it is the prime Minister and in Germany, the post is known as Chancellor. Cabinet act as the power center n the government in both of the countries. In the UK the cabinet is appointed by the PM though in Germany President appoints the cabinet according to the advice of the chancellor.

legislature and election: Both of the countries follow a bi-cameral parliament system. The upper house of the UK is known as the House of Lords and the Lower house is the House of commons. The members of the House of lords are clergy, life peers, and hereditary peers appointed by the monarch according to the advice of the Prime Minister and House of Lord's appointment commission. Members of the house of commons are elected by direct election on single-seat constituencies by simple, majority popular vote.

The German upper house is Bundesrat and the lower house is Bundestag. The members of the Bundesrat or federal council are appointed by the 16 state governments. In Bundestag half of the members are elected by direct election method in single-seat constituencies according to proportional representation vote. Another half is elected by single-seat constituencies by a simple majority mechanism.

Step 3

Judiciary: The highest court in UK is the supreme court established through the constitutional reform act 2005. Judges are selected by an independent committee according to the advice of PM and finally appointed by the Monarch. In Germany, the highest court is known as the federal court in which judges are appointed by the president according to the advice of the Judge election committee.

Both of the government systems have their own pros and cons, but they are suitable for their political environment. So choosing the best among these two is not practical. Even though I would like to prefer the German system as it is more democratic in nature. In UK's system, the institution of Monarchy and its influence and the composition of the House of Lords is not based on modern democratic principles whereas in Germany both heads of the state and heads of the government are responsible to the people and the federal council represents the interest of the states.
